The Hermit’s Lesson In Tarot

Tarot Cards

The Hermit Card is the ninth card in Major Arcana Deck and is associated with the zodiac sign Virgo. The card depicts an older man holding a lantern and stick, looking downward, standing on top of a snowy mountain top. His lantern has a six-pointed star in it and represents spiritual enlightenment. The zodiac sign Virgo also represents similar characteristics of being self-aware and self-sufficient.

The Solitary Journey

Some readers say that the old figure depicted is an older version of the Magician, now wisened with lessons. The man is looking down from the top he stands on alone. This position represents him reflecting and understanding the path he has crossed and will go to next.

This card comes at a point in our journey where we, too, must withdraw like the solitary man to return our inner voice. It is a message that we are in a period of soul searching where we are to focus less on materialism and take an internal stock of ourselves.

The hermit’s knowledge comes from withdrawing from the world and listening to the voice. Self-examination and reevaluating goals should take priority during this period.

His lantern has just enough light to show the few steps forward. This short-range of light reminds us to be patient during times of isolation and that the wisdom needed will come from within as we move along.

Seeking Guidance

In addition, this card also encourages you to look for the services of a counsellor or psychiatrist, essentially someone neutral to help guide you. It can also indicate a mentor might be entering our lives to guide us. This kind of mentor will help you find your own way to resolve things rather than teaching you a particular method.

Your inner world and how it reflects on everything else in your life should be the top priority during this time. The Hermit comes with the message to focus solely on yourself.
